ALEXANDRIA, Va. (April 29, 2002)
- The WorldWide Retail Exchange (WWRE), the premier business-to-business
exchange for retailers, manufacturers and suppliers, today announced
the findings from the largest CPFR® global launch ever conducted
by a public exchange, signifying the next advancement of CPFR®
savings in the global e-marketplace.
The launch, involving 480 SKUs in general merchandise, food,
drug, electronics and apparel in twelve trading partnerships,
impacted 45 distribution centers over three continents. The
WWRE launch results clearly indicated that retailers and suppliers
are able to re-align supply-chain processes and reach significant
operational and financial goals by using the WWRE® Collaborative
Planner.
The WWRE® Collaborative Planner enables members and their
trading partners to work in real-time and jointly manage sales,
order and promotional forecasts and processes, in a manner that
brings significant benefits and improvements to both sides.
"The WWRE® Collaborative Planner was one of the key
reasons we joined the Exchange," said Bob Wigmore, vice
president of supply chain logistics at Wyeth Consumer Healthcare.
"It will enable us to work at large scale with a broad
spectrum of our retail trading partners."
"Implementing WWRE® Collaborative Planner has been
a huge learning experience, resulting in improved trading partner
relationships and streamlined processes," said Jeffrey
A. Rein, executive vice president of marketing for Walgreen
Co. "We were able to improve communication and visibility
with our trading partners. And by sharing our forecasting data
and joint business processes, we have realized savings that
can be distributed across the supply chain."
The following are notable results from the WWRE® Collaborative
Planner launch:
(The percentages quoted below represent the mid-point of the
participant reported range of results.)
Forecast Accuracy Increased 25 Percent:
By collaborating on sales, order and promotional forecasts,
participants using WWRE® Collaborative Planner developed
a mutually agreed upon forecast based on the best data available
to both parties. These improved joint forecasts are the basis
for other supply chain efficiencies such as service level improvements,
inventory reductions and increased sales.
Excess Inventory Reduced 32 Percent:
Trading partners identified forecast accuracy and business process
improvements as drivers of inventory reduction. Visibility and
confidence in the collaborative forecast enabled the trading
partners to more closely match replenishment plans to consumer
demand, reducing costly safety stock. Management by exception
ensures continuous alignment of supply chains between trading
partners.
Lead Time Reduced 25 Percent:
Trading partners worked together to jointly establish business
goals. Existing business processes were then examined to determine
methods to meet these goals. By jointly developing a more efficient
process, and better aligning supply chains, participants reduced
delivery time.
In-stock Levels Improved 10 Percent:
Avoiding empty shelves, especially during promotions, resulted
in increased sales levels as well as long-term gains such as
increased customer satisfaction and loyalty. Shared plans, improved
demand visibility and more reliable forecasts improve product
availability at the shelf.
"The ultimate goal of any retail company is to find ways
to be more competitive, with their customers very much in mind.
We are making that easier by offering cost and time saving solutions
through the WWRE® Collaborative Planner," said Dawn
Andre, director of supply chain collaboration for the WWRE.
She added, "Retail and manufacturing executives cannot
ignore CPFR® as a significant method of improving supply
chain efficiencies and adding to their organization's bottom
line. Our solution delivers this in several key ways; providing
the ability to better coordinate promotional planning, sales
and order forecasting." One member noted that, "CPFR®
allows the buyer to think strategically about market trends
and promotional value, rather than concentrating on what is
supposed to be on the truck."
