ALEXANDRIA, VA (April 23, 2001) - The WorldWide
Retail Exchange (WWRE), the premier Internet-based business-to-business
(B2B) exchange for retailers and suppliers, today announced the
launch of its RFx services.
The WWRE RFx solution, a scalable version of Ariba's Dynamic
Trade application, can be used in two distinct ways:
- Request for Quote/Proposal (RFQ/RFP), an alternative sourcing
method used to solicit offers from suppliers to be used in a
negotiated purchasing process. The tool allows users to submit
a request online and interactively negotiate among suppliers.
- Request for Information (RFI), a pre-sourcing activity used
to gather as much information as possible prior to a sourcing
activity. The tool allows for quick deployment of the information
request and the responses are returned in a standardized format
to allow for rapid assimilation of information.
"The RFx tool, the second in our suite of eProcurement
offerings to go live at the WWRE, is a strategic sourcing tool
that will offer immediate benefits to our members," said
Colin Dyer, CEO of the WWRE. "Both suppliers and retailers
will gain significant benefits from utilizing a web-based tool
that is exchange enabled, including online interaction, potential
for quicker turnaround times and easier access to necessary data.
Ultimately, these benefits will translate into savings for the
end consumer. It's a win-win-win situation."
Benefits specific to retailers include lowered procurement costs,
simplification of the information-gathering process, a unified
approach to multiple suppliers and the ability to pass on savings
to their end consumer. Supplier-specific benefits include enhanced
visibility for companies of all sizes, including small- and medium-
sized suppliers, and standardized processes across a broad range
of global retailers.
