WorldWide Retail Exchange Announces Five New Members


Retailers Demonstrate Increased Global Interest in WWRE

July 12, 2000--The WorldWide Retail Exchange (WWRE), the world's leading retail e-marketplace, today announced that five retailersÐDairy Farm International, El Corte Ingles, Rite Aid Corporation, Safeway plc and SUPERVALU INC.Ðare joining the Exchange.

"Our reach and scale continue to grow as retailers worldwide recognize the enormous opportunities to streamline procurement and supply chain processes that the Exchange will deliver."

The WWRE (www.worldwideretailexchange.org) is a Web-based business-to-business exchange designed to facilitate and simplify trading between retailers and more than 100,000 suppliers, partners and distributors. Consisting of leading retailers from Asia, Europe and the United States, the WWRE is open to all suppliers and retailers who wish to use it. The Exchange currently includes members who have combined sales of nearly $454 billion (U.S.) or 452 billion Euros.

In addition to the new retailers, WWRE membership includes: Albertson's (U.S.), Auchan (France), Best Buy (U.S.), Casino (France), CVS (U.S.), Delhaize (Belgium), Gap Inc. (U.S.), J.C. Penney (U.S.), Jusco (Japan), Kingfisher (U.K.), Kmart (U.S.), Marks & Spencer (U.K.), Royal Ahold (The Netherlands), Safeway, Inc. (U.S.), Target (U.S.), Tesco (U.K.) and Walgreens (U.S.).

New Members

Dairy Farm International (Hong Kong) is a leading food and drugstore retailer in the Asia-Pacific region. At the end of 1999, the Group and its associates operated 2,063 outlets, principally supermarkets, convenience stores and drugstores, employed some 80,000 people in nine territories and had sales of $6.8 billion (U.S.).

El Corte Ingles (Spain) is the leading retailer in Spain. El Corte Ingles department stores are its main retail format with 55 stores located in all major cities in Spain. It also operates hypermarkets under the Hipercor name in 22 locations throughout the country.

Revenues for The El Corte Ingles Consolidated Group for Financial Year 1998 (ended Feb. 28, 1999) were 14.3 trillion ESP or $8.2 billion (U.S.).

Rite Aid Corporation (U.S.) is a leading U.S. retail drugstore chain, operating more than 3,800 drugstores in 30 states and the District of Columbia. Rite Aid owns PCS Health Systems, Inc., which provides pharmacy benefit management programs and services that can help improve patient health and reduce health care costs. Rite Aid also owns approximately 18 percent of drugstore.com, a leading online source for health, beauty and pharmacy products. Rite Aid's annual revenues are more than $14 billion (U.S.).

Safeway plc (U.K.), a leading grocery retailer in the United Kingdom, operates nearly 500 supermarkets throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Safeway brand is strongly focused on fresh food, customer service, product availability and deeply discounted promotional offers. The company's annual sales are more than £8 billion or $12 billion (U.S.).

SUPERVALU INC. (U.S.) is the tenth largest food retailer in the United States and the country's leading food distributor of food, pharmaceuticals and general merchandise to supermarkets, with 455 corporate-owned stores and 662 licensed limited assortment stores.
