| The WorldWide Retail Exchange Leads the Way for its Members into the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN)
Alexandria, VA (August 5, 2004)– The Worldwide Retail Exchange (WWRE), the premier business-to-business exchange for retailers and suppliers, today announced the completion of a beta test which culminated in the launch of the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) comprised of the GS1 Global Registry and compliant data pools. The WWRE is part of the initial group of data pools that has been through the approval process, supervised by the GDSN Oversight Committee. For a company to be successful in the beta test round, they had to demonstrate interoperability with at least two other data pools as well as the GS1 Global Registry. The WWRE completed testing with four data pools and successfully demonstrated their capability as both a GDSN source and recipient data pool.
“Interoperability has always been and continues to be an important focus for the WWRE and its customers,” says Jimmy Kim, Director of WorldWide Item Management. “We have hit another milestone through the completion of this test which enables us to truly connect WWRE members with all of their trading partners.”
The WWRE provides a comprehensive service to its manufacturer and retailer users, and supports critical capabilities such as data quality, connectivity to internal systems, and the ability to synchronize price, complex price and promotional data. Retailers using the WWRE platform can enjoy a single connection to their entire trading partner base. The WWRE currently provides interoperability with major data pools, such as Transora, UCCnet, GXS, CABASnet, bTrade, and Sterling Commerce.
Retailers using the WWRE for Global Data Synchronization (GDS) will benefit from commonality of supply base, direct connections to their suppliers, and a development roadmap that enables advanced commerce synchronization services, such as Direct Store Delivery, Scan Based Trading, and EPC.
The WWRE currently has over 30 live implementations on their item synchronization solution WorldWide Item Management (WIM) across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific regions. In the past year alone nearly 200 suppliers have chosen the WWRE as their direct connect data pool to the GDSN.
