Inc., WorldWide Retail Exchange Announce Strategic Alliance
Energy e-procurement vendor teams
with largest Internet-based marketplace to help large retailers cut
energy costs, reduce risk via e-procurement system
BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 21, 2003 – Energy
Window, a supplier of information-technology-based tools and consulting
to manage the energy supplies used by large businesses, and the
Worldwide Retail Exchange (WWRE), the premier, Internet-based,
business-to-business exchange for large retailers and suppliers,
today announced a strategic alliance for the WWRE to promote EnergyWindow’s
natural gas and electricity procurement services to its members.
Through this alliance, EnergyWindow will provide WWRE members with
access to its efficient, cost-effective energy procurement process
(an online request-for-bid system for procurement of natural gas
and electricity), as well as related Internet-based tools and information
for managing all phases of a company’s energy supply program.
Ultimately, EnergyWindow will migrate its energy auction process
to the WWRE’s eRFx online bid system for WWRE members. Initially,
however, WWRE members will use EnergyWindow’s online bidding
system to procure natural gas and electricity at more competitive
rates.
According to Dr. Jack Mason, EnergyWindow chief executive, the partnership between
EnergyWindow and the WWRE makes perfect sense.
“
Large retail operations are spending far more than they should on the natural
gas and electricity needed to run their multiple facilities,” explained
Dr. Jack Mason, chief executive of EnergyWindow. “This is either because
they don’t have the time or expertise to obtain competitive bids in areas
where energy is deregulated, or because they have no information systems designed
to track energy usage and make more informed strategic decisions. By gaining
access to EnergyWindow’s suite of online energy procurement and management
products, large retailers can, quite simply, reduce the costs, risk and complexity
of buying natural gas and electricity.”
“In a time when retailer’s margins are tighter than ever, the ability
to save thousands or millions of dollars in energy supply purchases can go straight
to a retailer’s bottom line,” noted Sally Herbert, CCO of the WWRE. “We
have chosen to partner with EnergyWindow because of their ‘best-in-class’ approach
to energy supply management and procurement.” A
Look at EnergyWindow’s Products/Services
This alliance will allow WWRE members access to EnergyWindow’s comprehensive
suite of energy management products and services. Highlights of these products
and services include:
- The EnergyWindow Request/Bid System: This system automates
the process by which businesses develop accurate requests for energy bids
based on facility needs,
solicit qualified bidders, conduct bidding and select the best energy supplier.
This system greatly speeds the process of obtaining energy bids, and allows
retailers to pursue competitive bids easily for natural gas and electricity
in markets where energy markets are deregulated.
- EnergyWindow Focus! Knowledgebase: This database allows
retailers access to current information about energy markets,
including market conditions and pricing, distribution company
rules (which
can vary from state to state), available energy suppliers
and more. Three valuable layers of information are quickly available,
including:
1) current or anticipated state energy market activity, 2)
distribution territory activity and active suppliers, and 3)
more detailed information
on distribution rules and supplier products. Through this
user-friendly
database, energy managers for large retailers can more easily
and quickly determine where and when to focus their attention,
and
when it’s most advantageous to solicit bids from suppliers.
- EnergyWindow Energy Management System: This information-technology-based
system is designed to help energy managers track their natural
gas and electricity usage on a monthly basis. The system will
automatically compare monthly energy use and costs by facility, and can quickly
spotlight key facilities where energy costs are increasing
beyond
accepted limits.
- EnergyWindow Energy Management Consulting:
EnergyWindow offers professionals with decades of experience
in virtually all facets
of energy supply management. While EnergyWindow routinely
partners with third-party energy consultants to help their clients,
the company also offers consulting services on an as-needed basis.
Key elements of consulting services include: development
of
overall energy strategies and programs, review of energy management practices,
and recommendations for short- and long-term improvements
in energy
management.
EnergyWindow Offers Proven Process; Large Retailers Saving Millions
“The efficacy of EnergyWindow’s model is supported by our previous
successes,” noted Mason. “For example, we have helped more than 20
internationally recognized companies and retail organizations significantly reduce
their energy expenditures through our online request for energy bid system,” he
said.
According to Mason, EnergyWindow already has achieved significant successes
with some large retailers that are WWRE members, including J.C. Penney and
another large national retailer that is a WWRE member. “The combined
total of these two entities’ energy savings achieved from working with
EnergyWindow totals more than $9 million. About WWRE
